Coastal sculling is river rowing’s wilder cousin and comes with two main racing formats:
Endurance and Beach Sprints
Endurance races take place over 4km for heats and 6km courses for finals and either start and/or finish off a beach or out at sea. This is the race for you if you’re wanting to challenge
yourself over longer distances.
Beach sprints are a fast-paced, knockout-style coastal rowing discipline where competitors sprint from the sand to a boat, row a 250m slalom course through surf, and sprint back to the finish line on the beach. This high-intensity sport, set to debut at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, combines coastal rowing’s technical demands with running speed.
